FAQs

  • Naturopathic medicine integrates modern medical science with evidence-based natural therapies, aiming to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care.

Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) consider the whole person—physical, mental, emotional, and environmental factors—in their evaluation and treatment plans. They focus on individualized care tailored to each patient's unique circumstances and empower patients to take an active role in their health.

NDs strive to manage symptoms while also addressing the root cause. They are trained to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness using a wide range of therapies. There is an emphasis on preventative medicine and health optimization, and treatments may include lifestyle and nutrition changes, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical prescriptions, injectable and IV therapies, and research backed botanicals.

  • Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) in BC are primary care providers who are able to assess, diagnose, and treat many health conditions. Seeing an ND offers numerous benefits and also complements the care provided by a Medical Doctor (MD) by contributing to comprehensive health management.

NDs focus on addressing not only current symptoms and concerns, but also the root causes of health issues. An emphasis is placed on lifestyle modifications and preventive care, as well as empowering patients with tools to maintain optimal health and prevent future illness.

There are numerous treatment options within an ND’s “tool-kit” and the right ones will be selected with you based on your individual needs (learn more about services offered here).

Patient-centered care is a critical part of seeing an ND. We take the time to thoroughly listen to your concerns and want you to be involved in your treatment decisions.

Ultimately, seeing a Naturopathic Doctor can provide additional perspectives and treatment options, contributing to a more comprehensive approach to health and well-being.

  • Appointments are structured to involve a comprehensive approach to assessment and personalized treatment plans. The number of appointments required can vary based on individual health needs, the complexity of the condition, and the treatment goals.

What you can typically expect is:

Initial Consultation: an hour-long detailed intake, discussing your medical history, current health concerns, lifestyle, diet, stress levels, and other relevant factors. We will align our understanding of your health and allow you to voice all of the concerns and questions you might have. We will likely conduct physical exams and order lab tests or other assessments to gather more information.

Treatment Plan Development: After gathering all necessary information, a personalized treatment plan will be designed, which may include dietary recommendations, lifestyle modifications, pharmaceutical prescriptions, nutritional supplements, IM injections, IV therapy, acupuncture, or other therapies.

Follow-up Appointments: Subsequent appointments are scheduled to monitor progress, adjust treatment plans as needed, and provide ongoing support and accountability. The frequency of follow-up appointments can vary. Initially, appointments might be more frequent to closely monitor your response to treatment and make necessary adjustments. As your health improves, appointments become less frequent.

Long-Term Management: For chronic health conditions or wellness-focused care, long-term management may involve periodic check-ins to maintain progress, address any new concerns, and ensure ongoing support for your health goals.

We will work collaboratively and consider your individual needs and preferences when determining the frequency of appointments.

  • Absolutely- I offer virtual telemedicine for patients across all of British Columbia. Virtual appointments can be a great option to mix in for patients local to Vancouver who don’t always find it convenient to come in person to the clinic (although I always love to connect with you in person as well!). Prescriptions and lab requisitions can still be sent to you if they are part of your care.

  • Naturopathic doctors undergo extensive training in both natural and conventional medicine to become licensed practitioners. The training encompasses rigorous academic education (8+ years), clinical experience, and standardized examinations. Required training includes:

    • Four years of Pre-Medical Undergraduate Education

    • Doctoral Degree in Naturopathic Medicine: NDs attend a four-year, full-time accredited naturopathic medical program at a recognized naturopathic medical school. The curriculum covers biomedical sciences, clinical sciences, and naturopathic therapies.

    • Clinical Training: During their education, students gain hands-on experience through clinical rotations, where they work with patients under supervision.

    • Board Examinations: graduates looking to practice in BC must pass rigorous standardized board exams, including the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX) and the CNPBC oral and practical examinations.

    • Continuing Education: NDs are required to stay up to date on research and complete numerous hours of continuing education while in practice.
